Steph at Back in Skinny Jeans floored me with her cliffhanger post yesterday. Today’s was equally raw, honest, and emotional. It was also inspirational.
One thing I find interesting about Steph’s story about overcoming bulimia is that she feels Western medicine failed her. Help came from holistic docs. What’s also important to learn from her story is that destructive behaviors don’t get “cured.” We master them, through whatever means, and then life throws us a curve ball and they’re back. For Steph, it was a milestone birthday on the heels of very difficult times.
Steph writes, “you cannot heal alone,” and I think there’s truth to that. Find whoever you think can help you best - be it friends, family, or an official “healer,” if that’s what feels right to you - and talk it out. When we’re in constant dialog with only ourselves, we can talk ourself into (a.k.a. rationalize) behaviors that just get nuttier and nuttier.

I was floored too, and I also agree we can’t, and shouldn’t, heal alone. I look forward to her third segment.
