I made Weetabix’s Chicken Tortellini Soup yesterday to ease my sore throat. My throat’s still sore and overall I’m worse, but the soup’s damn tasty! Tip: When you want to clean out and feel “light,” eat soup for a couple of meals in a row.
As usual, I used the recipe as a guideline, not a Bible. I’ve never heard of tomato powder, so I subbed in a can of petite diced. I used a lot less chicken, and possibly more vegetables. One must: Use fresh herbs!! That’s the difference between OK soup and incredible soup.
On another blog, Elastic Waist I believe, a writer mentioned taking Tortellini soup to some family members as part of some kind of Self magazine “Be a better person” guide. (I bet it was this very recipe, making the rounds… or wait a minute: Is Weetabix that same writer on Elastic Waist? I know she’s on that site. Hmmn. Confusing. Can you tell I’m sick? In any case I find the whole Self project very amusing so kudos on that series, whoever is writing it!)
Having read that, it occurred to me that I would take a carton of the soup to the schizophrenic man next door. Why have I never done that? Great idea. But then my boyfriend showed up, and I decided to send the carton home with him. He may not be needy, but he’s cute.

Now I need soup. I could probably also ‘be a better person,’ but the soup is just so much more immediately achievable! Here’s a tip straight out of a loved Swiss farmer’s soup recipe (Bündner Gerstensuppe). If you’re looking for another soup filler, try Barley. It’s yummy, and a nicer texture than rice.
Fell better Sara! Oh, and remember that the scale weighs heavier when you’re sick and just staaaaay awaaaaay.

That is indeed me in both places and also, yay for soup! You can get tomato powder at The Spice House here and it seems like you’d never use it but once I bought the stuff, I find it’s totally convenient when you just need a little dash of something tomato-y. Also, the recipe was meant to be just a guideline. This last time I made the soup, I increased the veggies and used mini ravioli was well as tortellini. I hope that you’re feeling better!
