Birthday Cake, Not Birthweek Cake

October 9th, 2007 · 8 Comments

closeupcake.jpgYesterday was my studmuffin’s birthday. He had a whole weekend of revelry, so I wanted to mark the day with cake, but not necessarily a whole week of cake, which is what we would have been facing with a full-sized cake.

So I made a mini bundt cake — gobs of chocolate for my chocoholic, but damage-controlled by virtue of its size. That way we’ll enjoy a treat, but won’t be eating cake straight through until the next birthday.

And now, the food porn October Centerfold:

The cake came from this modified recipe, and originally from Bon Appetit. Be careful not to overbake, as I did — check with a toothpick at 25 minutes. The top looks wet even when the cake is fully baked.

    Oh.my.lord.

My Vitatop for a snack simply can’t stand up next to this delicacy!! And I love the teensy size–such a smart idea. I might do that for hubby; he likes pies and cakes but he knows I won’t eat most of them (I prefer chocolate!) so he always has to eat the whole whatever by himself. But this teensy sized delight, Sara dear, is pure genuis! :)

Ps–LOVE the chocolate chips around it, esp. the white — yum!! Beautiful, bellisma, bonita!

:-) I SHOULD have gotten the even smaller size, and gotten two of them. That’s what I’d do if the leftovers would have sit in my frig. But they’ll be at his place, and he’ll be happy to have the two extra servings — to him, it’s breakfast.

Those are almonds, actually - but white chocos is SUCH a good idea, I will do that next time!

Oh My! Does that look like chocolate heaven or whatt???!! I have a pan that has 4 mini bundts, maybe I could do something like that! The problem, I would think one mini bundt would just be for me! Maybe freeze a couple?

I’m going to get one of those ultra-mini pans, Nanc. (The one I used was about 6 inches wide.) What’s cooktime like with those? I’m afraid I’ll overbake.

It’s always tough to judge time when you are tweaking baking recipes. I would say it would be more like 2 round cakes, but more than cupcake timing.
