Shapely Prose has an interesting conversation going on on her page about the Italian No.li.ta ads featuring a naked anorexic woman. I put my two cents in the comments over there.

    “Wow…wow. I have a friend who has been anorexic for quite some time (since she was 13) and I’ve never seen her in a bathing suit so seeing this brave model was really eye-opening. I agree with your message, Sara, that most people don’t want to emulate super-models–realizing they are not like normal people–but it’s true that Hollywood is to blame for casting only stick-thin people or asking actresses to lose weight for a part. It’s pretty sad to me that someone like Anne Hathaway is considered “big” or even Hillary Duff–who, fortunately, looks significantly better now with some tonage and meat on her bones. But this is what young women in America see, and many tend to idealize.”
