Valerie Bertinelli has hit goal on Jenny Craig. Steph at Back in Skinny Jeans wonders how long she’ll keep it off.
Jenny Craig will probably give her a lot of help in that, if she’ll take it, since the program doesn’t look so hot if she puts all the weight right back on. (Which statistically is what most Jenny Craig users do, since it’s statistically what most dieters do.)
The people I really cluck my tongue at — I know, I know, it’s not attractive — are the Biggest Loser cast. In a matter of weeks, under constant stress of cameras and peer pressure and trainers telling them what to eat and how long to exercise, they lose the equivalent of small children in weight. Then they go back to their hometowns, with their same lives and their same problems and their same routes past 12 fast food “restaurants”… what then?
Maybe the producers provide post-show counseling. That’s a good thought. They should, even though I’m sure the participants gleefully sign away any and all legal rights to get some “help” with their weightloss and get on teevee. A dream come true, right?

As for the Biggest Loser, did you see the “Where are they now” episode? I know it was a very biased percentage of returning contestants but I was pleasantly surprised by those who did return and see that they had kept a large amount of weight off and maintained the healthy lifestyle.

I didn’t see episode - but i did read a “Where are they now” article of the same gist, and thought about mentioning that. It’s good to know that the show has a positive effect on some of the contestants. Actually, i bet the show has a positive effect on a lot of people, for at least showing that “you can do it” - albeit in an extreme, not particularly healthy way!

I’ve always said, losing weight was easy, keeping it off has been far more challenging. Quick-fixes or “diets” don’t work. Eating less (and eating well!) and exercising more do. But people don’t want to hear that. And if I had 24/7 to devote to food/exercise, have personal chefs and trainers, I bet I’d be ripped beyond belief!! I like seeing stuff like this for motivation, but it really needs to come from within…

I’m glad to hear that some of the contestants fair well, but personally I think I’d be more interested in a follow up show about how they do intergrate their new good habits into their old lives without all of the help. I can’t realte to the luxury fat farm atmosphere of the show. Who has that much help normally? I mean, besides Oprah, of course.

[…] the women who write it run one of those luxury weight loss camps Melissa mentioned in the comments. It’s hard to say whether I would ever choose a week at a fat camp over a week in, say, […]
